NASCAR 25 December Update Refreshes Driver Ratings

The NASCAR 25 December update was the game’s first true content-and-quality drop, not just a bug-fix pass. Released across December 8 and December 12, 2025, it touched racing, presentation, career, and online play all at once. It also arrived alongside the game’s December DLC.

The change fans noticed first was the driver ratings refresh. iRacing updated every driver’s rating using full 2025 season data from Racing Insights, so the field finally reflected how the real season actually played out. Because driver ratings shape how the AI performs at each track type, this made a full career season feel more authentic.

Career players got a big fix too. The update corrected a Championship mode bug where a driver could win the title without making the final four, which broke the whole point of the playoff format. iRacing also improved pit road exit speeds, a quality-of-life change that smoothed out green-flag stops.

On track, the December update re-tuned the AI Incident Slider and fixed an online problem where AI drivers could fall out of sync. Together, those changes cleaned up both single-player racing and the online experience, two areas fans had flagged since launch.

Presentation picked up a fun touch as well. The patch added the Goodyear blimp overhead, a small detail that longtime NASCAR game fans immediately recognized as a nod to the broadcast look. Little things like that go a long way toward selling the race-day atmosphere.

The paint booth crowd was not left out. iRacing fixed an annoying bug where shapes would sometimes disappear, and the update added support for the December DLC pack. A follow-up patch on December 12 fixed an issue where some players briefly lost steering at the start of a race, then confirmed the December DLC was live on all platforms.

The December DLC gave the update extra weight. Because the free fixes and the paid pack arrived together, the community reaction leaned positive rather than feeling nickel-and-dimed. Owners who wanted more schemes and options got them at the same moment everyone got a healthier game.

So what tied it all together? Timing. Because many players had holiday time to race, iRacing used the window to show the game was growing, not stalling. The driver ratings refresh in particular set up a stronger second season of career play.

There was still a wish list, of course. Fans wanted more tracks, deeper career ownership tools, and further paint booth freedom. However, the December update proved iRacing could deliver meaningful content and fixes in a single, coordinated drop.

If you had drifted away from the game in late fall, the NASCAR 25 December update gave you plenty of reasons to return. Between refreshed ratings, a fixed championship, smoother pit stops, and that Goodyear blimp overhead, the game closed out 2025 in far better shape than it started.
